Garden of the Gods Hiking Trails: Popular Routes
If hiking in Colorado is on your list, you already know it’s a dream destination, and the Garden of the Gods is one of the most unique stops along the way. With red dust underfoot, towering sandstone formations, and that unreal contrast of blue sky against red rocks, it’s the kind of place that instantly lives up to the hype.
After plenty of research and time spent exploring myself, I’ve rounded up the best Garden of the Gods hiking trails and exactly why each one deserves a spot on your list.
1. Central Garden Trail
The Central Garden Trail is the must-do hike in the park—and for good reason.
This paved loop takes you right through the heart of the most iconic rock formations, with minimal elevation gain and nonstop views the entire way. It’s accessible, short, and incredibly rewarding.
Why it ranks #1:
- Most famous rock formations
- Easy and accessible for all visitors
- Best “bang for your buck” in the park

2. Siamese Twins Trail
The Siamese Twins Trail is short, slightly less crowded, and delivers one of the most unique views in the park.
At the end of the trail, you’ll find a natural rock “window” that perfectly frames Pikes Peak—easily one of the most memorable photo spots.
Why it ranks #2:
- Unique framed view of Pikes Peak
- Short and easy hike
- Less crowded than Central Garden

3. Palmer Trail
If you’re looking to stretch your legs a bit more, the Palmer Trail is a great option.
This trail runs along the outer edge of the park and connects to several other trails, making it perfect if you want to create your own loop, as I did.
Why it ranks #3:
- Longer distance without being too difficult
- Connects to multiple trails
- Elevated views and fewer crowds

4. Ridge Trail
The Ridge Trail may be short, but it packs a bit more of a punch.
With a quick elevation gain and closer proximity to the rock formations, this trail feels a little more adventurous than the paved paths.
Why it ranks #4:
- Short but more immersive
- Slight challenge compared to other trails
- Great perspective among the rocks

5. Scotsman + Buckskin Charlie Loop
If you want to escape the busiest areas, this combo of trails offers a quieter experience with wide-open views of the park from a distance.
Why it ranks #5:
- Less crowded
- More peaceful hiking experience
- Great for repeat visitors or longer outings

If you have more time to explore the park, there are many more trail options to be hiked! These are just the top five that I’d recommend. Garden of the Gods truly has hiking trails for every type of hiker —from iconic viewpoints to quieter paths and elevated perspectives of the park’s famous formations.

Love our visits to Garden of the Gods. It’s a great place to take visitors who may not yet be used to the altitude (especially the easier trails).
That’s so true! I saved it for last on my itinerary, but it would have been great for when I first arrived. That’s a great tip for future visits.
Love Garden of the Gods, have a brother that lives in the springs, I make it a point to spend time there just about every time we go see him.
You’re living the dream! There needs to be more women like you out there!
Now that I’ve been out there, I would absolutely put it on every trip I make out there in the future. There are still trails I’d love to hike that I didn’t get to last time.
Thank you for your kindness, I’m doing what I can to live life to the fullest!
